Why is healthy skin so vital?

Let’s start with the simple fact that your skin is your body’s largest organ! It makes up your entire outer capsule, and it is the first barrier of defence your body has against environmental threats. Keeping your skin healthy means protecting your entire body. Just as we ensure our immune systems are strong, we should ensure our skin is too.

Healthy skin is beneficial to the body as a whole, with a few of these benefits being:

  • accurately regulates our body temperatures
  • naturally filters environmental elements that can affect your health
  • protects your body from the viruses and bacteria you are exposed to
  • feels pain, pressure, and temperature, allowing your body to react to changes around you
  • produces vitamin d when exposed to the sun (which is important for multiple bodily functions)
  • protects you from ultraviolet  (UV) rays that damage body cells
  • helps the body remove excess water and salt

There are many ways you can improve or maintain skin health:

  • use clean skincare products that benefit the skin and work toward overall skin health
  • apply sunscreen every day
  • drink plenty of water to hydrate the skin
  • follow a nutritious, well-balanced diet to ensure your skin receives sufficient vitamins & minerals
  • exercise regularly in order to boost circulation of body fluids
  • stay smoke-free if possible – nicotine leads to less absorption of oxygen, which is vital for regeneration of new, healthy skin cells
Taking the extra time and effort to look after your skin every day is a decision you won’t regret!
